Doing yoga can sometimes get you as high as a doobie, only it’s a completely natural high. What poses (also known as asanas) cause you to get high?
It’s a combination of things. The yoga high comes from physical exertion, mind-body connection, feelings of safety through community or familiarity, and rest. Yoga asanas are a part of all of the above. Which ones work best?
Asanas that make you high
Warrior poses. The warrior poses require physical exertion, which is part of the recipe for the yoga high. They require balance and strength to hold. Your lower body is in a lunge-like position, and your upper body is nice and long.
Forward folds. These gentle inversions get your heart higher than your head and gives your spine a break from the constant force of gravity. Careful coming out of them. You want to avoid lightheadedness.
Head-to-knee stretches. Stretching out your hamstrings can feel impossible. But devoting time to them in your yoga practice is a great way to get high.
